Two large rallies attended by thousands of people took place in the Somalia capital Mogadishu on Thursday to support the acceptance by the new government to implement the Sharia law in the country.

The demonstrators who gathered in the main football stadium and former Sayid statue square near the presidential headquarter in the capital also called for withdrawal of the African Union peacekeepers.

Sheik Ahmed Dhicisow, among the religious leaders who organized the rally that happened near the presidential house talked to the crowds saying that it is too important to support the new government by the time it is ruling the country with the Islamic Sharia.

“the current government said that it is introducing the Sharia law in the country, therefore there is no way to oppose it,” said Ahmed adding that every Somali should work out the peace.

The rallies came a week after heavy fighting happened in the capital between government forces backing by the African Union peacekeepers and fighters of Hizbul Islam (Islamic Party) Islamist rebels killing dozens of civilians and wounding more than hundred others
