Somalia:Key Al-Shabab commander resigns

One of the Islamic militant group Al-Shabab officers
said on Thursday that he quitted from the group - this
is a blow to the movement’s increasing power in the
capital.
In an interview with Waagacusub Media, Mahamad
Adan Kofi, one of the leading frontline officers in the
group spoke out his defection from Al-Shabab saying we
have to honor to the recent call by the clerics that is
giving four months to the African Union troops to withdraw
from the country.
“When I understood that some of Al-Shabab officers oppose
to the call of the clerics of stopping the war for 120
days, I decided to back out of Al-Shabab Islamists,” said
Kofi who also appealed to the Islamist officers at the
frontline to cease bothering the public and fear of their
Allah.
Kofi was among Al-Shabab militant commanders known for the
hit and run attacks on the Ethiopian troops during their
presence in Somalia. He is the first Islamist officer off
the group since Al-Shabab started its armed struggle
against the Ethiopian occupation two years ago.
