Somalia:Fighting kills 15, wounds 60 in the capital.

Heavy fighting has erupted in the Somalia capital Mogadishu on Tuesday between Somalia’s unity government troops backed by the AU peacekeepers and Islamist militant groups killing more than 15 people and wounding 26 others, medical sources told Waagacusub Media.

The latest fighting took place in Hodan district, south of the capital where the rebel Islamists attacked bases of the government troops and African Union soldiers.

The rival sides exchanged mortars and heavy artillery weapons killing and wounding many innocent people.

“I have seen the dead of six civilians and injures of 15 others when mortar shells hit a place where many people were on queue to get medicines at local clinic,” said a local resident around Zobe area in Hodan neighborhood who witnessed the casualty.

It was the worst fighting raged in the capital since the government of national unity was formed in Djibouti last week.

Dahir Dhere, the director of Medina Hospital said the number of civilian casualty is increasing. “the injures that reached the hospital is over 58 people as four of them died of serious wounds,” he added.
Several artillery rounds landed on the main market of Bakara in Howlwadag district where number of civilians killed and wounded.

Today’s fighting came weeks after the city has been relatively calm as many displaced people began returning to their homes in the capital.
