Somalia’s new president Sharif Sheik Ahmed has returned
back to the capital of Mogadishu on Monday condemning
the recent suicide attack on African Union peacekeepers
killing 11 soldiers as unlawful and inhuman.
Special plan carrying the president and his delegation
landed on Mogadishu’s airport this morning as the
security was tightened by the government’s joint forces
of secular and Islamists.
The president told reporters at the airport that he was
so sorry about the deaths of the Burundian soldiers
killed in the yesterday’s suicide blast which claimed by
the Al Shabab Islamist group.
He sent condolence to the government of Burundi and
families whose men killed in the suicide attack.
`` the AU peacekeepers did not come to Somalia to kill
the people but to help Somalis and it is certain that
they will pull out of the country through peaceful means
not by force. Their withdrawal will come when peace
agreement reached,`` said president Ahmed.
He reiterated his call for peace and ready to negotiate
with the rebel groups at all costs. “I believe that any
difference could be solved through dialogue,” added
Ahmed.
The moderate leader welcomed the recent statement by the
religious clerics who had been meeting in Mogadishu a
week long and called for total withdrawal of AU troops
from Somalia within 120 days.
