357 members voted yes for the cabinet while 16 voted
no as 2 abstained. Hours before the vote the cabinet
ministers were sworn through the book of the holly Quran.
The deputy prime minister and minister of energy and
petrol Abduwahid Elmi Goonjeeh who is hailing from Marehaan
clan of Darod tribe resigned after his clan pressured
him not to accept what they called un-important post.
The minister’s resignation followed mass demonstrations
in Gedo region, southren Somalia against the formation
of the new cabinet as unfair.
Mr. Elmi was the first minister resigned from the new
cabinet day after it was formed the prime minister,
the son of a former slain president in Somalia 1960s.
Also in Djibouti, leaders of some of the minority clans
like Tumaal, Musse-Dheri and Madhiban held press conference
boycotting the new government saying that they were
ignored and not given enough posts.
Other ministers are due to resign from the cabinet as
the leaflets written on words against the minister of
finance Sharif Hassan Sheik Adam were scattered at the
hotels in Djibouti.
“Sharif Hassan is nation destroyer, violator, selfish
and he is not born to Digil and Mirifle, he is from
Others and now he is known money laundering, he is not
deserved to be finance minister. To give Sharif the
post of finance ministry means to name a cat to be the
head of the rats. He had never been in school, he only
knows to save money,” those were among the terms written
on the papers.
