Somalia’s Islamist
hardliners of Al-Shabab on Friday declared an
independent Islamic administration in Baidao town, 250km
southwest of the capital Mogadishu which rules Al-Shabab
controlled regions with Sharia law.
The local Islamic administration that was announced in a
meeting held in former parliament house in Baidoa will
be under the control of Al-Shabab hardliners.
It was the first time that Al-Shabab Islamists form an
administration since they captured the strategic town of
Baidoa from the transitional federal government on 26
January day after the Ethiopian forces withdrew from
there.
Islamic officers of Al-Shabab told the local media that
they appointed Sheik Hassan Mohamed ‘Ayman’ as the head
of the local administration in Bay and Bakol regions.
Local elders, Islamist Sufi clerics and other
intellectuals in the region attended at the occasion as
the security was tightened by Islamist fighters.
After the declaration of the Islamic autonomy, Sheik
Ayman asked for the public in the region to support his
administration and help restore peace and stability in
the southwest regions.
This comes as some of the parliament members that ousted
from Baidoa by Al-Shabab group now involves in military
preparations Hudur town bordering with Ethiopia aimed to
recapture, according to the resident told Waagacusub.
