Somalia’s Islamist rebels are recruiting new fighters in southern Somalia to fight against the new government and the African peacekeeping troops in Mogadishu, sources in the region told Waagacusub on Tuesday.
 
Officials belonging to the Islamist hardliners said that they opened military training to 500 militias collected from southern regions of Gedo, Middle Juba and Lower Juba.

Mohamed Wali Sheik Mohamed, who was among the leaders of the Islamic Courts Union, but now belonging to the Asmara-based Islamist groups, said they are planning strong forces to face what he called the puppet government and its foreign troops.

“Our fighter will defend the religion and the country off the enemy,” added Mohamed.

The move came as the Islamist groups opposing the new government are intensifying in much of the southern parts of the country as they control partly in the capital.
