Somalia’s new president Sharif Sheik Ahmed and several officials of the government and Islamic insurgents on Monday attended at peaceful rally held in north of the capital Mogadishu – it is the first time that president Ahmed appeared in public since he was elected as president last week.

Speaking to large of crowd of people who gathered at the former Police Transportation Center in north of Mogadishu, Ahmed said what he is holding for the people is peace and it is high time to bring peace in Somalia which had long been in anarchy.

“I am here to rule the country with Islamic Sharia and what I am in search for that people should live in peace and tranquility. I would say to the groups that oppose the peace, stop the violence and take the peace,” said Ahmed.

Young moderate cleric and for Islamic Courts leader, Sharif Ahmed also stated that the country faced a new change which is peaceful atmosphere and people indeed are hungry for obtaining peace and stability. “I am calling for all Somalis to support the peace in the country,” added the president.

Ahmed Abdi Salan, former deputy prime minister who also delivered speech at the scene said all Somalis agreed one and other and heading towards peace and coming from the hostility taking an example for many officials from the government and Islamists who had fought before but gathered for peace which is the interest of the people.

Sheik Abdukadir Ali Omar, the leader of Islamic Courts Union who also addressed at the rally said that they as the insurgents are ready to work out the peace and urging every one to help restore the peace.

“I don’t think that there is anyone who refuses to reach peace and the country will ruled with the Islamic religion and every Somali person should practice with Islam because it is the solution,” said Ali.

Abshir Nor farah known as “Bacadle” a well known rhymester , who gave speech at the gathering said the people are Muslims and those who oppose the peace they will be enemy saying some poems over the value of peace..
