Severe drought hit the Somalia’s central
province of Galmudug as it had particular effect on the
families in the rural areas of Hobyo town which is under
the control of regional state of Galmudug, officials and
residents told Waagacusub Media on Sunday - It was the
worst drought hit the area in five years.
Hundreds of people in the villages of Bud-bud, Afbarwaqo,
Idan, Afweyn, Gawan, Wisil, Elgula, Afgadudle, Haro, El-dibir
and Xero-dhegex faced the drought which resulted from
lack of seasonal rains.
Many livestock animals died of lack of pasture as the
wells run out of water with the land dried which turned
the tree leaves into grey.
Shuke Hogolof, the director of SOSDA relief agency, who
visited the villages hit by the famine told Waagacusub
Media that many nomads who lacked pasture and water for
animals now faced drastic situation and need urgent
assistance after long standing drought.
“children and old people suffered malnutrition which
cause death if they do not get aid,” said Shuke who
appealed to international aid agencies and Somali
communities in abroad to help save the suffering people
in central Somalia.
In other words, the administration of the Galmudug state
named a committee to make survey on the drought-effected
areas in Galmudug regions to asses the needs of the
people.
