Somalia:
CONCURRING BUNCH OF IDIOTS

Reading Somali news these days is very puzzling and
sometimes promising. It is promising because of the
success of The Djibouti Conference thanks to Djibouti
President, Ismail Omer Geele, and his efforts to solve
the daunting tasks and challenges facing Somalia. Nevertheless,
the success of that conference depends on how fast the
International Community supports the new president and
his government. The eastern African countries will be
judged on the amount of support they give to the New
Government of Somalia. The work ahead has many faces:
The new government campaign among the different Islamic
factions in the south and bringing Somaliland and Puntland
to the table, convincing our neighbours and the world
that the new government’s agenda is workable.
THE NEW PRESIDENT AND HIS EXPECTED GOEVRNMENT:
Sheikh Sharif Ahmed seems optimistic and reasonable
during and after the Djibouti Coneference. His speeches
in Djibouti and Addis Abba shows that he is intent to
try his best to bring the BUNCH OF IDIOTS fighting in
the south and carrying atrocities. Sheikh Sharif has
to do his homework. He has to bring together his WILD
TRIBE, Hawiye. Hawiye is responsible for the destruction
of Somalia and the death of thousands of Somalis under
the ruthless and criminal HAWIYE WAR LORDS. Somalia
has been a hostage for Hawiye tribe and its inner fighting
for power. He has to tell his tribe that there is no
moderate, fanatic, extreme Islam and that there is only
one Islam: An Islam under one God and one Prophet. Islam
that respects human dignity, neighbour, brotherhood,
good friendship, and the will of the people. An Islam
that tolerates different opinions and that acknowledges
the bond between International Communities. When the
new president brings his people to their senses, his
next priority is to tackle with rest of problems.
THE INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY:
The international community has hailed to the success
of Djibouti Conference and aware of the daunted tasks
ahead. All nations that have either an interest in Somalia
or sympathize the suffering of Somali people for decades
have now realized that there is an opportunity and hope
in the new process started in Djibouti and willing to
give all support to president Ahmed provided he brings
his tribe and others together through serious consultations.
The readiness of international community to help has
never been so real than any other time before. The United
Nations is watching and has already given its full support
to the new Somali Government and its efforts for national
reconciliation and the establishment of effective security.
Although the United Nations has promised to help in
providing support to the African Union’s peacekeeping
force and developing Somali security force, it stated
clearly that President Ahmed and his government reach
out all Somali people and parties, including those who
are outside the Djibouti process. O the other hand,
almost all nations that have an interest in the sea
routes of Red Sea and the Indian Ocean are present in
the seas and watching the development of the process
and already extended an olive branch to Newly Elected
President: Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed. Those nations
including the European Union and the United States which
have higher stakes in the process also have given their
support to the President. Those nations are promising
the possibility of a long awaited peace and the end
of people’s suffering. They are ready to a peacekeeping
operation to support the Somali Political process, economic
build up, and Social development. Continuing the recently
thought sanctions for ostracizing those who are obstacle
to peace is necessary if the process needs to be successful.
Sanctions have already worked and we see the result
of it already. Those who are resisting the recent peace
process and want to sabotage it through fights supported
by some African Nations are to be stopped through tough
sanctions of individuals and forced by International
Community.
THE CHALLENGES FACING NEW GOVERNMENT:
The priority of the New Government has to be based
on a government of a national unity. This process will
be long, tedious, and frustrating. The leaders of the
blood thirsty factions in the south will not let their
guns silent. The Hawiye leaders who are the source of
the blood- shed in the South will not go away easily.
Puntland will not accept Abdillahi Yusuf’s humiliation.
Somaliland is seeking secession and is a power to count
on. The journey has begun and the destination is uncertain
and shrouded in mystery. The fight with piracy which
is the most concern internationally will assist the
new government to seek support from the countries which
has interest of ending piracy in the Horn of Africa.
Human crisis and continuous war is also most urgent
to be addressed. Since the start of the civil in 1992,
15 provincial governments have come and failed but militias
have increased and killings have continued. The danger
of more wars is imminent and the making of the new government
will have a little effect in the ground.
THE PUZZLING ARGUMENT:
In spite of the readiness of the International Community
to help, it is not sure how far it will go in peacekeeping,
national reconciliation, financing the new government
to function and take its seat in Mogadisho. The International
Community has ignored the bloodshed and the brutality
of the war lords in the south for a long time. Will
the international community bring those war lords to
International Court? Will the Hawiye people do a favour
for themselves and for Somali people in general and
bring those among them who are the cause of the bloodshed
to justice? Will the Bunch of Idiots among the Hawiye
people stop the bloodshed and dividing the people along
pseudo Islamic factions and false Islamic ideology?
CAUTION:
The list to do is long and difficult to solve immediately
and does not need swift action. With a divided parliament,
humanitarian disaster, and the unwillingness of the
crazy radical Islamist groups, the new President’s approach
to tackle with all those daunting issues are to be well
thought and discussed with peace loving people from
all quarters of the Somali people. The president has
to form a national government from the young, educated,
less polluted Somalis in the country and abroad. The
people of Somaliland have reasonable argument to secede
from the parent state and they have to be given their
democratic choice. Somaliland is already a state with
all requirements for independence and to think otherwise
will complicate the delicate issues facing the Somali
people. Puntland with its rich pirates wants to grab
the power if it comes back to the fold and does not
like to see their man to be humiliated.
The new president and his government will be in the
headlines for years to come if he survives from the
ocean of challenges and struggles ahead.. But first
and for most he has to defeat the selfless Islamist
Groups and the bunch of idiots from his own tribe who
are a threat to Somalis and the international communities.
Therefore, with a fully fledged support from the rich
Western Nations, the rich selfless Islamic countries,
and the AU, the new born process helped by the President
of Djibouti, Ismail Omer Geele, will either thrive or
will go down in history anonymously. Before things get
better, it is likely to look a whole lot worse.
